MOUNT ROLAND HAZELNUTS CEASES OPERATIONS
Nov 2023 A Message from Greg and Elizabeth: Over the last year or two we’ve come to the regrettable conclusion that advancing age and ill-health means that we are unable to keep running the farm. This is sad for us, and for our wonderful customers, but unfortunately there is no choice. Thank you for supporting Australia’s only commercial scale certified-organic/biodynamic hazelnut orchard – it’s been an amazing and enjoyable journey for us, and it has been a privilege to provide lovely organic hazelnuts to you. Best wishes to you all, Greg and Elizabeth. OUR BIGGEST HARVEST EVER!
Apr 2023 We are very pleased to announce that our 2023 harvest - over two tonnes - has been the best ever! Many thanks to all of those who helped with the harvesting, including the Kentish Garden Club, our fabulous Dutch wwoofers Jasper and Mellanie, Marion, Geoff, the Wilson family, and Ross. We expect our hazelnuts to be dried and ready to buy in late May ... |
DEVASTATING WIND STORM IN THE SHEFFIELD AREA June 2022 On 11-12 June we experienced a very frightening and damaging windstorm at our farm. Around this region many thousands of trees were uprooted, property was damaged, and a human life was lost. Our farm was without power for four days, and we were unable to leave because of fallen trees and power lines. We believe, at this stage, that our hazelnut trees survived the strong winds without significant damage. Fingers crossed! However, many trees in our native vegetation shelter belts - particularly big eucalypts - were destroyed. We had lots of trees fall across fences - this will take weeks of work to rectify. |

We are also delighted with the quality of the nuts. Details of how to purchase are available here. Our hazelnut farm is also featured in a recent story in Tasmanian Country. |
2018 HARVEST UPDATE
May 2018
Due to a lighter-than-expected harvest, and strong demand from existing customers, we are very sorry to say that the 2018 harvest is now sold out. Seasonal conditions adversely affected our crop this year, and also that of many other hazelnut growers in Tasmania. We are sorry to disappoint those waiting for nuts!
We do have a waiting list for the 2019 crop, so please let us know if you are interested ... simply email us at mountrolandhazelnuts@hotmail.com.
